Over the past ten years, Christbridge Academy has worked together with Empowering Lives International (ELI), a Christian mission dedicated to serving those in need in Kenya, Congo, Uganda and other war-torn countries. The students at CBA worked for over three months in fundraising efforts to support the ELI school in the Congo that the children there might experience the love of Christ in seeing Christ’s provision for them and their needs.
Their school is located in the slums of a major city in the Congo where war refugees have fled for protection. They have inadequate housing, little food, poor drinking water and sanitation conditions. Often the fathers have gone to other cities to seek work as there are few jobs available to the refugees, leaving the mothers and their children with little food and few ways to earn money and provide for their children.
Three hundred dollars was needed for a child to be able to go to school for a year as well as be provided with a meal a day and the required school clothing. CBA students conducted bake sales, car washes, snack sales, door-to-door visits as well as asking family, friends, church members and others to contribute toward the children in the ELI school. This year, a total of $6,650 was collected and sent off to the ELI Congo School.
