Heritage Day, an all-encompassing celebration of cultural diversity and spiritual unity, was begun at Christbridge Academy over thirty years ago. In 1985, Heritage Day found its remarkable birth on Christbridge’s campus well before cultural diversity was as widely spoken about as it is today.
Vividly described as the “highlight of the year”, Heritage Day has continued every year, rain or shine – but mostly shine, on the last Saturday of April. It is designed to be a full day of activities to celebrate each family’s ethnic origins as well as to celebrate the unity, richness, and oneness that Christ brings. Families come brilliantly dressed in national costumes, share a variety of mouth-watering ethnic foods, and are entertained with a dazzling program of skits and songs highlighting the true integration of spirit and multiculturalism. All this is followed up with games and a water balloon toss to cool everyone off.
Christbridge Cultural Diversity
Students who attend Christbridge have come from so many cultures and countries including Egypt, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Mexico, and the Philippines. Christbridge Academy’s college prep and English Language Development programs have been drawn many students. The staff, adept in the student visa process and trained to assist language learners, has created excellent opportunities for students coming from far, especially those who need a home-stay program and extra support being away from the rest of their family members.
Heritage Day is a time for students to proudly represent their home culture and our families have described this annual event as “a real treat,” “outstanding,” and “very special.” We think it has something to do with the fact that Christbridge’s population is and has always been made up of such rich cultures and a unity in faith. That isn’t to say that all our families are Christian. In fact, Christbridge welcomes families from various walks of life with the understanding that their children will be taught through the lens of Christian faith.
